🌟 Join Us as a Volunteer for India Mela 2026!

India Mela, the largest Indian festival in western Japan started since 2010.

The unsung heroes behind this massive event are our passionate volunteers—students and working adults alike!

No experience, Japanese/Indian language skills, or prior knowledge about India required! Everyone is welcome!

1. Who We’re Looking For

• Nationality / Gender / Experience: Open to all!

• Age: High school age and above.

• We’re looking for people who are:

  • Cheerful, energetic, and good communicators

  • Interested in India, Indian culture, or foreign travel

  • Looking for make new friends. 

  • Looking for something fun to do in their free time!　

 

2. Key Dates　

• Event Days Volunteers:

  October 10 (Sat) – October 12 (Mon, Public Holiday), 2026

  (Setup Day: Friday, October 9 – Time TBD)

  • Single-day participation is more than welcome!

• Planning & Operations Team (Pre-event):

  July – October 2026 (at Kobe Port Oasis)

 

3. Locations

• Festival Days:

  KOBE Meriken Park (Access Map)

  2-2 Hatoba-cho, Chuo-ku, Kobe, Hyogo 650-0042

• Preparation Period & Orientation:

  Kobe Port Oasis (Website)

4. Working Hours & Shifts

Pre-Event Preparation

• Saturdays & Sundays: 14:00 – 16:00 (at Kobe Port Oasis)

 

Festival Days (Oct 10 – 12)

• Shift ①: 09:00 – 15:00

• Shift ②: 14:00 – 20:30 (Ends at 19:00 on the final day, Oct 12)

• Working just one shift per day is totally fine.

• If you need custom shift hours, please let us know when applying!

 

5. Benefits & Perks

• Payment : Unpaid (Volunteer position)

• Insurance : covered by volunteer insurance

• Meals : Meal vouchers provided (available only for festival days)

• Transportation : Self-funded (Not covered)

• Special Perks :

  • Free traditional Indian/Asian costume rental (When you want)

  • Free Bollywood dance workshop (Usually ¥1,500!)

 

6. Roles & Responsibilities

Festival Days

• Staffing the Information Desk

• Administrative support at headquarters

• Event booth assistance

• Venue cleanup & trash sorting

• Stage event support & seminar assistance

 

Pre-Event Preparation

• Event planning & management

• Making signage & decorations

• Promotional activities

• Bollywood dance practice, and more!

 

ℹ️ Important Notes

1. Flexible Hours: If you cannot stay for a full day or shift, please mention your available hours in the application form.

2. Language Skills: If you speak Indian languages or other languages, especially if you can translate Indian languages to Japanese, please let us know!

3. Volunteer Orientation: We encourage all volunteers to attend an orientation session before the event.
   It will basically be conducted in Japanese, but we can prepare an English handout.

Orientation Schedule (Choose one)

• Session 1: Saturday, September 19 | 14:00 – 15:30

• Session 2: Sunday, September 20 | 14:00 – 15:30

  (If you cannot make these dates, please contact us for alternatives!)

Location: Kobe Port Oasis

Program: Introduction of India Mela, introduction of volunteer's role, interact with other staff , free Bollywood dance experience, and Q&A.

 

7. Positions Available

• Total: about 200 volunteers across 3 days

  (Applications may close early once capacity is reached).
